Ōwhata Marae, on the Ōwhata / Herekino Harbour, represents the hapū of Ngāti Torotoroa, Tahukai and Te Popoto. They also have close connections with Ngāti Kuri rāua ko Ngāti Wairupe. Hapū interests in land include Rarotonga, Rāwhitiroa, Ōwhata, Te Paku, Te Pūhata, Te Uhiroa, Manukau, and Epakauri.
